何十年、何百年をかけて成長した木を大切にしたい。二十数年間、大工をして思ったこと。古い民家を解体した木や建築現場で出た端材は、産業廃棄物として処分されます。長い年月をかけて成長した木が捨てられるのを、少しでも減らしたい、違う形で残したいと思っていました。そんな時出合ったのが、寄木細工でした。白谷工房では材料の選別をしません。節や虫食いの穴、時とともに朽ちた部分も自然が作り出した表情。作品に取り入れています。白谷(シロイタニ)は鳥取県日南町、中国山地にある小さな集落です。そこにある使われなくなった保育園で製作をしています。
